Allie Stoltz

by Seymour Pierce

Allie Stoltz, a fighter from Newark {and a very good one} fought Sammy Angott for "a championship" at the old Madison Square Garden. Although Allie definitely won the fight the "Belt" was retained by the "more well known" Angott. As a youngster I was at the fight, near ringside and I recall the local audience screaming and screaming "Hooray, We've got a Champ" but it was not to be. (to me he was a champion.) This took place on May 15, 1942. I am sure there are members of Allie's family still in the area. To them I would add, he was a great boxer/fighter and over the years always a fine gentleman.
